After the success of 2021, CFA will again hold the 2022 CFA VFBV State Firefighter Championships in Mooroopna.

The Urban Junior event will take place on 19-20 March followed by the Urban Seniors, and Rural Seniors and Juniors competitions the following weekend, on 26-27 March 2022.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said planning for the events was underway, which includes COVID-19 and child safety measures to ensure the health and safety of attendees.

“We are hopeful to be in a position which would allow the broader community and non-competing CFA members, to attend the event in 2022,” Jason said.

“We want as many people as possible to experience the atmosphere the combined events create and watch and support our competitors as they exhibit their skills. We look forward to seeing more brigades and members at next year’s event.”

VFBV CEO Adam Barnett said the confirmation of dates gave members something to look forward to as we continue our journey out of the pandemic.

“We are very much looking forward to continuing our partnership with CFA in delivering one of Victoria’s proudest and longest traditions, with the first State Championship held in Melbourne in 1873,” Adam said.

“With last year having to be closed to the public to comply with COVID health restrictions - CFA members, families and supporters will be thrilled to know that CFA and VFBV are committed to making next year’s championships the best ever.”

Further advice will be provided shortly to coaches and teams to support them to hone their skills and teamwork ready for the Championships within COVID-19 guidance and restrictions. COVID-safe requirements will be available soon in the Championships section of Members Online and will be updated regularly.

As well CFA has recommended that competing brigades start exploring accommodation and travel options whilst remaining COVID compliant. Check the list of suggested accommodation options.

Jason said this event provided an opportunity to celebrates the selfless and remarkable contribution CFA members make to communities across Victoria.

“The State Championships is CFA’s premier event to showcase the skill, professionalism and talent of CFA volunteer firefighters. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at Mooroopna 2022,” Jason said.
