Josey saves 300+ lives through giving blood

Josey Sensi is a Senior Station Officer at Springvale Fire Brigade and also an avid blood donor, making her many blood or plasma donations count towards the Red25 Emergency Services Blood Challenge.

Josey

Josey made her first donation at the age of 16 after seeing her mother donate. Having it explained at such a young age inspired her to continue to donate regularly. Since then, Josey has donated over a 100 times, saving an incredible 300 lives, on top of the lives she has saved as a firefighter.

Josey has also encouraged her five-year-old son to come along when she donates so she can give the same insight to him as she received.

Josey encapsulates the kind and caring attributes of someone who is selfless and naturally wants to roll up her sleeve and help out. Her attitude is to keep the main goal in sight - by donating your blood you are saving other people’s lives.

Many people have a fear of needles and this can be difficult to overcome. However, it's a small price to pay given the potential gains for other people. It’s a way to put someone else first and be grateful that you are in a healthy enough position to give your blood to someone in need.

Donating blood reminds Josey how fortunate and lucky she and her family are to have such good health.

If you are interested in donating blood, get in touch with Red Cross on 13 11 14 or www.donateblood.com.au

With three weeks left, CFA is still in third place behind Victoria Police and NSW Police, and we could overtake them with eight donations a day.
