On Saturday 16 November, past and present members of the Crib Point Fire Brigade including 60-year foundation member Cyril Thompson marched from their old station to the newly-built Crib Point fire station.
A welcome to country was conducted by Uncle Mike of the Bunurong Aboriginal community.
The new $1.4 million facility includes a three-bay drive-through motor room, turnout room, storeroom, workshop, modern amenities, brigade office, kitchen and meeting room.
The new site also features 13 on-site car parking bays, a training area at the back of the motor room and a four-bay external shed along with an undercover area.
Crib Point Captain, Captain Geoffrey Watson said the station was welcomed by the brigade’s members, which include 26 senior members and 14 junior members.
Mr Watson also acknowledged the Department of Defence and Greg Hunt MP for their assistance with acquiring the station’s lease. Captain Watson presented certificates of appreciation to those who supported the brigade during construction of the new site.
In officially opening the station, CFA Board Member, Dr Gillian Sparkes said that it was a marvellous success for the brigade and local community.
“It’s an honour to be a part of today’s proceedings. This well-appointed new complex provides our Crib Point members with modern facilities and comfortable surrounds, helping them to continue carrying out the important work they do.”
“On behalf of CFA, I would like to sincerely thank the dedicated Crib Point Brigade Members led by Brigade Captain Geoff Watson, District Staff and the Australian Defence Department who have all played a key role in delivering this valuable community asset that will serve this community for decades to come,” Dr Sparkes said.
The facility not only provides a safer working environment for the brigade volunteers but will also act as a community hub which can be utilised by the Westernport Group and wider community for local meetings and events.
