Expected to be completed by the second half of 2019, the new station will enable the Ararat Brigade to build on the outstanding service it has already delivered in protecting lives and property.

As part of the plan, the existing volunteer station will be demolished a new site identified and a new station constructed.

The process, including temporary arrangements will involve extensive consultation between the Victorian Government, CFA and the local community.

The announcement was made by Emergency Services Minister James Merlino, during a visit to Ararat. Funding to build the station will be drawn from the $60 million Fire Services Statement, announced in November 2017.

“The Victorian Government is supporting our firefighters by giving them the infrastructure, equipment and training they need to respond to emergencies and keep people safe, Mr Merlino said.

CFA Acting Chief Officer Gavin Freeman welcomed the announcement which he said would greatly assist the Brigade to build on its record of outstanding service.

“The Ararat Brigade, through its various activities - fighting fires, responding to more than 170 incidents each year, and educating through the community safety programs it runs - plays an integral local role,” Mr Freeman said.

“This announcement underpins CFA’s commitment to supporting our people with the necessary infrastructure, equipment and training to enable them to carry out their important mission going forward.”
