CFA assists with forest fire

CFA crews are assisting the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) with a fire in the Meredith State Forest on Slate Quarry Rd this evening (12 December).

Twenty CFA trucks are helping to extinguish the grass and scrub fire, with further assistance from firefighting aircraft.

The fire is not yet under control and is travelling east towards Sheoaks and Maude.

Firefighters are protecting one home in the forest and are working to contain the fire in bushland.

District 7 Rostered Duty Officer Mark Collins said hot and windy weather forecast tomorrow will require crews to monitor the incident overnight.

“We’re working closely with DELWP to keep an eye on this forest fire because we’ve got bad weather conditions expected tomorrow,” he said.

An advice message has been issued here, assuring no threat to communities, however advising residents in the area to monitor weather conditions, review your fire plan and keep roads clear for emergency service vehicles.
