CFA responded to over 380 incidents overnight as wild weather lashed the state.
There were more than 170 calls to powerlines down due to the high winds. Districts 8, 13 and 14 were the busiest for CFA.
But it wasn’t just the weather that kept firefighters busy.
Five crews from Rye, Rosebud and Boneo were called to a fire at the Head Keepers White Cottage, part of the Cape Schanck Lighthouse precinct, about 8.50pm.
The cottage was rented at the time and the occupants were alerted to the fire by a working smoke alarm.
The fire was confined to the roof space, with some smoke and water damage to the internal parts of the building.
The cause was a crack in the chimney, which allowed the heat to go into the roof space.
About 11.15pm crews were called to a house fire in Robin Close, Doveton.
Significant fuel loads around the property made the fire fight more difficult for crews. It took over an hour to bring it under control.
The weather conditions also made it difficult to control, with crews focusing on asset protection to ensure the fire didn’t spread to adjoining properties.
Fire investigators will attend today to establish a cause.
Also overnight, more than 20 crews attended a mulch fire at Moolap. It took about three hours to bring the 30x20 metre wood pile fire under control.
