CFA launches Choose Tap

On a warm Friday afternoon, staff packed into our tea room to hear about the Choose Tap program.

Staff came along today to hear David Spokes, CFA Executive Director Performance and Strategy, and Tony Kelly, Managing Director of Yarra Valley Water talk about why choosing to drink tap water is best for your health, the environment and your hip pocket.

David told the gathering why CFA is participating in the program. With purchases of around 2 million bottles of water in the past 6 years, increasing at a rate of around 20% each year, we understand our use of bottled water is not sustainable. David also spoke of the natural catchments from which Melbourne’s water is sourced and CFA’s role in protecting those areas during bushfires.

Tony spoke of the ongoing shared emergency services role that exists between CFA and YVW and talked about the health benefits of staying hydrated and drinking tap water in particular. Tony also informed the crowd of the Choose Tap App for IPhone and Android – this App helps people find free drinking fountains while they are out and about.

Captain Koala and Tapman made a special appearance for the launch and helped give away re-usable drinking bottles to staff.

The Choose Tap message is simple: whether on station, in the office, or out and about in daily life, CFA members are encouraged to Choose Tap.
