Craigieburn annual dinner

On Saturday 2 September 2017, Craigieburn Fire Brigade held its annual dinner.

By Dianne English, Secretary Craigieburn Fire Brigade

The night consisted of many awards. A number of service awards were handed out, along with the usual Encouragement Award, Officer’s Award, Staff Recognition Award and the Volunteer Firefighter of the Year Award.

All members of the brigade,  including on and off-duty staff, attended teh event. We sat back, relaxed, let our hair down and enjoyed the night.

A very special service award was handed out to SSO Michael Wearne.

SSO Wearne is not only a well-respected staff member, but also a life time member of Craigieburn Fire Brigade. He received his 50-year service medal from Acting Assistant Chief Officer John Deering.

SSO Wearne has served many years as both a volunteer and a staff member, supported by his lovely Pam, wife of 38 years.

SSO Wearne recently returned to work on station at Craigieburn after a long battle with an illness.

He is a true legend and an inspiration to many within the CFA and Craigieburn brigade.

"We are so honoured to have SSO Wearne back on station bossing all the young whippersnappers around," said Acting Operations Officer John Zuccarelli.

Overall, it was an outstanding night for the brigade and a big congratulations to all the award recipients for the hard work and commitment they've put in.
