Crews were paged to the fire at 7.19pm last night (Monday 6 August) and Doreen Fire brigade's pumper tanker arrived on scene in less than five minutes.

The fire started in a pan left on the stove and spread into the roof space of the home via the range hood.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly contained the fire.

The residents had evacuated the home safely and, although distressed, were unharmed.

Water supply was not an issue with a line to a hydrant being established by the crew from Yarrambat brigade.

The thermal imaging camera from South Morang pumper was deployed to check for hot spots.

The scene was declared safe at 7.44pm.

A planned tour of Doreen Fire Station by local Girl Guides that evening has now been arranged for another night.

Remember:

  • Never leave cooking unattended
  • Keep tea-towels and pot-holders away from the stove
  • Keep grills, fans and cooking surfaces free from grease and residue
  • Keep a fire extinguisher or fire blanket close by

Units on scene included Doreen pumper tanker and tanker, Yarrambat tanker, South Morang pumper and Eltham BA Support.
