With the CFA-VFBV Firefighter State Championships combining in Mooroopna 2020, preparation is well underway to make the event a successful one.

The Torchlight Procession, traditionally an urban event, will be open to rural teams in 2020.

For the first time, Urban Senior and Rural Championships will combine in 2020, and a few changes have been made to make the event a collaborative success.

  • Torchlight procession - the Torchlight Procession, traditionally an urban event, will now be open to rural senior/junior brigades. The procession will take place on the Saturday evening around the prominent Shepparton Lake. All competing brigades are encouraged to take part in this spectacle, which is proudly supported by Greater Shepparton City Council. Rural brigades will be asked to indicate their intentions to participate at the time of submitting their registration forms.
  • Facility - The CFA VFBV State Firefighting Championships will be held at the Mooroopna Recreation Reserve which has undergone a number of improvements to ensure it will sufficiently host the event. Both the Urban and Rural committees have endorsed the track for use.

  • Corporate presence - There has been a huge amount of interest and support generated from corporate CFA with 20 departments being represented (Volunteer Recruitment and Recognition, Urban, Learning Hub, Service Delivery Reporting Centre, Knowledge, Fire Equipment Maintenance (FEM), ICT, Community Safety, Bushfire, Corporate Apparel, Business Intelligence, Annual Brigade Review (ABR) and Brigade Capability Profiling Application (BCPA) Wellbeing and Health, Land and Building, Child Safety, Youth Programs, Recruitment Retention and Reengagement, Volunteer Sustainability, and Communications and Stakeholder Relations).
  • Celebration of CFA/community focus - In addition to the traditional Championships competition, 2020 will see a focus on celebrating CFA as a whole. As part of this there will be a range of activities on offer to appeal to the broader greater Shepparton community to encourage their attendance. More information on these activities will be available shortly.

Promotion of the new-look championships to the wider community has already begun with a dedicated page on the CFA website.

If you're a CFA member, there's lots of further information about the new-look Championships on the CFA Intranet.
