CFA was called to the incident on the Ambler Lane Track just before 10.30am.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was undertaking recreational activities on the track when he fell 60 metres down a cliff.

CFA rescue crews worked alongside Ambulance Victoria to undertake a steep angle rope rescue.

The injured man was placed on a stretcher and brought up to the track before being carried to the closest road.

He was then transported by paramedics to an Ambulance helicopter who airlifted him to a Melbourne hospital.

The man was believed to have received serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The rope rescue was complete by 2pm. Six CFA crews from Ballan, Ballarat City and Blackwood were on scene.
