Historic firefighting showcase

A showcase of firefighting techniques and equipment from the gold rush era has been a hit with visitors to Sovereign Hill this week.

As part of Fire Action Week, brigades from CFA’s District 15 have been taking part in the display, which is running from 12.30pm each day, until 24 November.

Today (19/11), Parliamentary Secretary for Police and Emergency Services David Southwick visited the display and talked to members and visitors about the importance of Fire Action Week and the awareness it raises heading into summer.

CFA Grampians Regional Director Don Kelly said the event was also a chance to reflect on how far firefighting has evolved over time, and to recognise the commitment of CFA’s members who have worked tirelessly to protect their communities for the past 150 years.

As a thank-you, CFA members are being offered free entry into Sovereign Hill until 24 November, upon presentation of their member ID card. Family members can also receive a 10 per cent discount if they are attending with a CFA member.

Sovereign Hill is located in Bradshaw Street, Ballarat.
