Holiday plans go up in smoke

A caravan attached to a vehicle has been destroyed after catching fire early this morning.

District 13 RDO Jason Lawrence said crews from Rowville and Dandenong attended the scene at about 6:20am but could not save the caravan.

“Fortunately, no-one was inside the caravan when it caught fire but it suffered severe damage,” he said.

“I believe the owners, a couple, were driving up to the Northern Territory for a holiday so this is obviously pretty disappointing for them.”

It’s believed the couple pulled their vehicle over at an intersection in Rowville when they noticed smoke coming from the caravan.

The caravan was being inspected today by fire investigators to determine the cause.
