On a chilly Sunday morning in Merrijig participants of the North East Region Community Engagement Forum were the first to see CFA’s new short film, KIAP in Action.
CFA’s Koori Inclusion Action Plan (known as the KIAP) was launched in May 2015 during National Reconciliation Week.
Steven Smith Assistant Chief Officer Inclusion and Fairness was proud of the commitment to making CFA more inclusive.
“Two years on from the launch, we’re now able to celebrate the actions taken by our brigades and members towards creating a more inclusive CFA, this film demonstrates that progress,” said Steven.
KIAP in Action shares those stories of relationships developed with Traditional Owners and steps taken by Brigades and CFA members to be more welcoming and respectful.
The short four minute film looks at three examples of Aboriginal inclusion and engagement in CFA focusing on Barmah Brigade, Rochester Brigade and a traditional burn in Euroa.
“CFA is committed to Aboriginal inclusion across the organisation.
“The aim of the KIAP in Action film is to share learning’s from Brigades who have embraced the programme and the Vegetation Management team.
“Our hope is that their commitment will inspire action in other Brigades, Districts or within individuals,” said Steven Smith.
