Kyneton celebrates its outstanding members

Kyneton Fire Brigade recently presented awards to members to recognise their ongoing commitment to their community.

Among the many awards presented to volunteers were two significant awards for extensive long service.

Doreen Robbins received an award recognising 60 years of long service to CFA. Doreen first joined Kyneton Fire Brigade as an auxiliary member in August 1957. Since then she has volunteered her time on countless occasions and worked with other Auxiliary members to provide meals and raise funds for volunteer firefighters at Kyneton. 

Doreen still attends meetings and is a still keen to be involved as a brigade or support member at Kyneton Fire Brigade. A special event was held recently at RM Begg, where Doreen received her medal from Operations Manager Bill Johnston.

Another stalwart of Kyneton Fire Brigade, Laurie Fielding, received his Outstanding Service medal. This medal recognises prolonged service to CFA distinguished by exceptional performance. It is one of CFA’s most prestigious internal awards. Laurie began with Kyneton brigade in December 1949 and has served as captain, lieutenant, communications officer, apparatus officer and firefighter. 

In the past he was actively involved in CFA competitions and was instrumental in the brigade receiving a wider range of significant awards. More recently his role has focused on supported the Auxiliary with food preparation and delivery of meals to volunteer firefighters. His volunteerism is of the highest quality and he continues to be involved in brigade events.

In addition, other brigade members were recognised for their noteworthy contribution to CFA as medals and certificates were presented to members by CFA Board Member Lynda Hamilton, CFA Deputy Chief Officer Stephanie Rotarangi and MP Mary Anne Thomas. Mayor Jennifer Anderson also thanked CFA members for their community service.

Colin Webber received the National Emergency Medal for his service to others during the 2009 Victorian bushfires.

Ashley Marsh received the prestigious National Medal which recognises prolonged exposure to hazard in the community and requires a minimum of 15 years of diligent service.

Laurie Fielding, Roger Walker, John Pearce and Martin Bourke also received first, second and fourth clasps for their National Medals, These clasps represent an additional 10 years of service for each clasp.

Kyneton Fire Brigade members have committed an outstanding number of years of volunteer service to our local community and should all be congratulated for their dedication and commitment to making our community a safer place.
