Macclesfield Christmas Display 2013

Every December, a small house in the town of Macclesfield comes to life with the spirit of Christmas.

Entering its third year, the annual event organised by brigade members Phil and Fiona Spencer has kept kids big and small entertained for hours - with some standing still for a long time trying to take in all the detail the miniature village displays brings.

It all started off innocently enough with the Spencers thinking a few years back it might be a bit of fun to use some of their already collected LeMax models to make a small display and potentially raise some much-needed money for a brigade that struggles with fundraising.

When it snowballed out of control in the first year and people were showing up from Glen Waverley, Ferntree Gully, Burwood and even some from overseas out here on holidays, the idea stuck and the displays grew. Now expanding over three rooms, a newly-constructed patio area, a new double garage and most of their front yard, visitors find inflatable Santa toys, picture walls, model train sets, a small Christmas gift shop and even a kids' area full of toys and, of course, a place for Santa to come and visit the good kids.

The house is alive with movement, lights and noise and we think the adults are more gobsmacked than the kids.

Taking the full 12 months to construct, the creation of this year's displays began boxing day last year - with each piece hand placed and a landscape sculpted around it. Every year the displays are torn down and a new layout featuring new ideas and themes is constructed from scratch. The entire brigade is on hand for the opening nights but the credit of all the hard work of building, promoting, preparing and creating these wonderlands goes to the Spencers.

All proceeds from the event are donated back to Macclesfield brigade, which is currently fundraising to replace its brigade-owned tanker 2.

We would love if you could come and visit!
