Since the election of a new brigade management team in July last year, Mallacoota Fire Brigade has been kicking goal after goal.

The brigade successfully obtained a grant through the 2017-18 round for VESEP to replace its aging light tanker located at Gypsy Point.

On Sunday 20 May, the brigade held a Community Fun Golf Day, at Mallacoota Golf Club. The aim of the event was to raise funds to assist with their contribution towards the purchase of the new light crew cab tanker.

Not only did the brigade reach its ambitious target of $10,000, it blew the ‘fundraising thermometer’ through the roof by an amazing further $8,022, to reach a total of $18,022.

Mallacoota brigade Captain Rod Lewis said, “The brigade has been overwhelmed by the support of the community, and especially grateful to Bendigo Bank for its $5,000 donation and the Community Op Shop’s $2,000 donation”.

“We had many more sponsors for which we are very thankful, including the Mallacoota Golf Club for free use of the course and clubhouse for the event”.

Les Carson, Mallacoota Brigade Community Safety Coordinator explained, “The event consisted of 18 holes of golf, followed by community education focusing on fire safety. There were demonstrations relating to the correct use of fire extinguishers and fire blankets, and the event was rounded off with raffles and auctions”.

“We had good positive feedback on the day from those attending, requesting that this be an annual CFA event. This event has gone a considerable way to improve our brigade and CFA’s image in the community,” he said.
