Far East Gippsland Fires

CURRENT SITUATION
Fire activity has moderated since Tuesday under cooler conditions. There are no current threats to communities.
A small fire was started by a lightning strike at Cape Conran on Wednesday the 26th of February & was quickly contained. Yesterday Crews worked on blacking out this fire which burnt through 2 hectares.
Resources currently deployed to fires include 313 crew, 95 slip-on units, 2 tankers, 48 plant (machinery) and 5 aircraft

SP Ausnet has planned power outages for Sunday the 2nd of March for a couple of hours. Planned power outages will occur at: South of Bonang in the Goongerah Valley. SP Ausnet working on hazardous tree removal.
West of Bonang in the Deddick Valley, Dellicknora, Tubbut, Cabanandra areas. SP Ausnet working on replacing a burnt power pole.
COMMUNITY INFORMATION SESSIONS
Bonang – Sunday 2nd March, 12.30pm at the Bonang Hall (includes a barbecue for local residents).

· Beware of stock trucks.
· Only emergency service vehicles are allowed to drive past or around “Road Closed” signs. They are put there for public safety and to reduce traffic in a dangerous area.

ROAD CLOSURES
The Bonang Road from Orbost to Goongerah remains closed. There is no access north of Orbost.
The Bonang Road from Bonang to Goongerah remains open to local residents only, with proof of residency being required at the traffic management point established at Rising Sun Road, Bonang.
The Yalmy and Pinnak Roads are also closed. VicRoads are working to have the Bonang Highway open to residents as soon as possible. Works are currently being undertaken to replace guard rails, guide posts and access will be at a reduced speed. Refer to VicRoads for road closures and updates.

The impact of an emergency such as a bushfire can be stressful and exhausting. People are encouraged to look after themselves in this period.
