To celebrate National Volunteer Week (13-19 May), CFA is saying “thanks a million” to its volunteers, families and employers for everything they do. This week we will feature a series of profile stories to highlight the great work and diversity of our volunteer members.

Not all of CFA’s more than 55,000 volunteers are the ones you’ll find in yellow on the fire ground.

There are many behind-the-scenes volunteers who are just as important to the running of their brigades and the wider organisation.

And then there are CFA supporters - Community members, local businesses and fellow volunteers who are equally as vital in helping to protect lives and property in Victoria.

Community radio station Plenty Valley FM certainly fits into this category as an Emergency Broadcaster for the Shire of Nillumbik and the Cities of Banyule and Whittlesea, and surrounds.

Like CFA, Plenty Valley FM is fuelled by the energy and passion of its volunteers. In various roles, more than 40 volunteers help run the station including eight people dedicated to the Emergency Response team. All presenters are also specially-trained in emergency broadcasting.

To highlight volunteering within the community, Plenty Valley FM has this week interviewed four CFA volunteers, all who have different roles and responsibilities within their brigades.
