Purnim house destroyed in blaze

More than 40 firefighters from six CFA brigades attended a house fire 4km west of Purnim on the Hopkins Highway just before midnight last night.

Appliances from Warrnambool, Wangoom, Purnim, Framlingham, Woodford and Grassmere were in attendance for approximately four hours.

CFA District 5 Duty Officer Henry Barton said the vacant house and semi-detached outbuilding were completely destroyed by the fire.

“Whilst no longer used as a residential dwelling, the owners made regular use of the buildings for lunch breaks, etc, when working on the farm”, said Mr Barton.

The cause of the incident was still being investigated.

“CFA and VicPol fire investigators attended the scene today to try and establish the cause of the incident”, he said.

The property owners passed on their sincere thanks to all the emergency services personnel that attended the incident.
