Rain can't stop D05 Champs

What started out as a cold, wet and windy day, sometimes typical on the South West coast, eventuated in the successful running of the D05 Rural Championships, this time hosted by Yambuk Fire Brigade
and Belfast Group.

Held at the Yambuk Recreation Reserve, a total of 26 teams from brigades across Districts 4 and 5 competed in both the Junior and Senior competition, with Dunrobin A winning at both levels in the
outright and composite aggregates.

Inclement weather made for testing conditions for all competitors. At one stage the rain came down so hard that an event was briefly abandoned allowing teams and judges to seek shelter.

“It is worth highlighting that a number of new records were achieved during competition today, even with the varied weather conditions” said Championship Committee Secretary Clif Watt.

Overall results were as follows:

Seniors                                                            Senior Composite

1st Dunrobin A                                                  1st Dunrobin A

2nd Strathdownie A                                          2nd Dunrobin B

3rd Byaduk B                                                    3rd Strathdownie A

Juniors                                                              Junior Composite

1st Dunrobin A                                                   1st Dunrobin A

2nd Strathdownie                                               2nd Dunrobin B

3rd Dunrobin B                                                   3rd Yambuk A

In addition to the overall competition, a number of individual performances were recognised and awarded, including:

District 5 Encouragement Award - Hamilton

District Officers Conduct and Discipline Shield - Yambuk

Shire of Southern Grampians Perpetual Shield - Byaduk

Shire of Moyne Perpetual Shield - Yambuk

For a few of the brigades, the D05 Champs was their final chance to prepare before the State Rural Championships to be held at Werribee on April 6 and 7.
