Rubbish fire at Montrose

CFA and MFB firefighters have been battling a rubbish fire at Montrose this afternoon, 5 May.

CFA was called to the incident on Cambridge Road just after 1.30pm and found a large pile of rubbish on the side of the road well alight.

The incident was under control by 2.50pm but crews remain on scene extinguishing the rubbish.

It’s believed a driver of a waste truck noticed his rubbish was on fire so he dumped the rubbish onto the side of the road.

A bobcat has been brought in to help pull apart the rubbish which is being transferred into a skip.

Cambridge Road has been blocked at Swansea Road and VicRoads has also brought in some caution signs.

Seven CFA trucks and two MFB trucks are on scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
