During National Volunteer Week the State Control Centre opened its doors to show volunteers how the centre works and how all agencies work together before, during and after emergencies.
It was an opportunity for Emergency Management Victoria to showcase how all emergency services work as one.
Participants were welcomed by SCC Manager Steve Riley who provided an overview of the centre, followed by Joe Buffone who explained his role as a State Response Controller.
Participants were then taken on a guided tour and met experts in the Social Media, Airdesk, Fire Behavior Analysis, Public Information and Intelligence sections.
Steve Gormley from St Andrews Fire Brigade thought the tour and presentations were excellent.
“Knowing what the SCC does and the information they need, will help us to improve the information flow, so you (the SCC) in turn can better help us on the ground or in the chain.” He would highly recommend similar tours to all emergency personnel.
All participants were very impressed with the presentations. Comments included it “was an excellent overview of the operations and processes”, and the “content was very informative”.
After the success of these tours we look forward to running more in the future.
