Successful planned burn at Lockington

On Saturday 8 November, CFA members from Lockington, Pine Grove, Kotta and Bamawm Extension carried out a planned burn in the Lockington Bush Reserve, situated directly north of the Lockington township.

This operation was part of a broader effort to manage fire risks, following a similar burn conducted last year in the other half of the reserve.

Ignition and patrol crews worked closely together to maintain fire intensity to clear ground fuels while protecting the trees throughout the area.

Lockington Captain Eric Bloomfield who oversaw the operation was happy with the results of the burn, highlighting that the benefits were twofold.

First, the reduction of flammable materials near the township decreases the risk of fire spreading directly into Lockington. Second, the operation offered local CFA members valuable hands-on experience in a controlled setting where opportunity to refine their skills and increase their knowledge of fire behaviour.

Bloomfield, who is eager to promote the importance of brigades undertaking ongoing preventative measures, has already begun discussing further areas that could benefit from similar treatments in the future, ensuring the continuous improvement of local fire management efforts.
