Total Fire Bans for Wednesday

The CFA has declared a day of Total Fire Ban in the Mallee, Northern Country, North East and North Central.

Wednesday’s Fire Danger Rating is Severe in the Mallee, Northern Country, North Central and North East; Very High in the Wimmera, West and South Gippsland, and East Gippsland; High in Central and Low-Moderate in the South West fire weather districts.

The TFB declarations follow the return of hot, dry conditions on Tuesday.

CFA Chief Officer Joe Buffone said even though temperatures aren’t predicted to be as bad, the risk remains.

“This is particularly so for the north of the state which has now seen a sustained period of warm to hot weather,” he said.

“Grassland and scrub is increasingly dry so the danger is there.

“For that reason workers need to check if they need a permit to carry out their normal activities.

“Jobs like road and rail maintenance, or those involving welding, grinding or soldering, are banned without a Section 40 permit.

“These permits need to be organised in advance with your CFA District officer or MFB Zone office.

“It can be an inconvenience for some, but these small actions can play a big part in protecting the wider community.

“Recklessly lighting fires is a crime, please do not be complacent tomorrow.

“If you see anything suspicious call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.”
