Emergency services responded to a report of a worker trapped, after a building site trench collapsed just after 4:15pm on Friday 1 September.
CFA and MFB specialist trench rescue crews attended the job on Perry Road, Keysborough. CFA Incident Controller Loretta Binder from Keysborough Fire Brigade coordinated the incident, with Dandenong brigade's Adam Small as rescue commander.
The worker was trapped below the waist by falling soil around 2.5 metres from the top of a narrow trench. As multiple agencies worked together, the area was stabilised to allow Dandenong brigade's ladder platform to carefully lift the worker clear after more than three hours.
He was transported by ambulance to hospital.
Around 35 members and 15 vehicles attended the site along with Ambulance Victoria and the police.
