Update from Deputy Chief Officer Gregg Paterson

With the resumption of brigade activities due to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, we have received feedback from brigades asking for clarity about training activities in an ongoing capacity over the fire danger period (FDP).

Update from Deputy Chief Officer Gregg Paterson

To ensure the continual support of brigade training needs throughout the FDP, I can confirm the following:

  • CFA supports training over the summer months during the FDP. While regional training campuses may be closed over the Christmas - New Year period, they will re-open after this time.
  • Our training team will continue to coordinate and support training and skills maintenance during the FDP.
  • Brigades and Groups are encouraged to plan for and deliver training during these periods and work with their local Coordinator Learning and Development to suit local risks and needs.
  • Training programs in line with the strategic intent, including First Aid and General Firefighter, will continue to be made available over the FDP.

CFA is committed to ensuring training needs are supported as we transition to face-to-face training activities while we transition to a ‘COVID normal’ setting.

We understand the difficulty lockdown has imposed on brigade and group training activities and look forward to assisting in both skills acquisition and skills maintenance activities during the FDP.
