Whittlesea Diamond Valley Group has completed the development of new field operations boards to better record and communicate vital information in the escalation and management of incidents.

“Our brigades identified the value of rugged whiteboards able to deal with the rapid flow of information in developing bushfires and other incidents,” said First Deputy Group Officer Peter Bury.

We first developed a prototype and our strike team leaders and sector commanders gave their feedback.

"The final kit is a double-panel whiteboard, pens and eraser, a full set of magnetic labels for all group vehicles and those likely to support us (to track resources) and a protective soft case."

The pre-formatted information panels on these boards out in the field match those on larger operational boards in the Group's local command facilities (LCFs).

The new system is designed to help improve efficiency and communication for field commanders and incident controllers in incident control centres and LCFs, and assist in managing the complexities of both escalating and sustained jobs.

The compact boards are housed in brigade and Group FCVs and are being deployed more broadly in District 14.

“Improving operational efficiency for field and ICC commanders reduces the impact of fires on our communities,” said Group Officer Lex de Man.

"The boards, magnetic labels and their covers were designed by our Group and manufactured in Victoria. Supporting local manufacturing benefits our communities too.”
