Yacht sinks in Western Port

A 38-feet motor-yacht sank off Phillip Island last night.

Coast Guard was notified of a motor-yacht taking on water south of Phillip Island at 2133hrs. The vessel was unable to start its motors and could not operate under sail. Western Port Coast Guard was quickly responded to attend and was underway at 2144hrs. The Police Air Wing was also dispatched to assist in locating the vessel in distress based on provided GPS coordinates. 

Two crew members on board the disabled vessel deployed their life raft at 2243hrs as their vessel began to sink on one side. The crew made it safely into the life raft at 2253hrs and the air-wing confirmed they lost visuals on the target vessel at 2300hrs.

Western Port Coast Guard recovered the crew from the life raft shortly after 2300hrs and were instructed to take the two crew directly to San Remo to meet with paramedics on standby.
