Yambuk National Medal

More than 50 people gathered at Yambuk Fire Station on Saturday for the National Medal presentation to Yambuk CFA member Geoffrey Youl.

Presented by CFA Board Member, Michael Tudball AFSM, along with CFA District 5 Operations Officer, Henry Barton, the medal recognises diligent long service to the community in hazardous circumstances, including times of emergency and natural disaster, in direct protection of life and property.

Since commencing his membership with the brigade in 1961, Mr Youl has held various leadership roles for both Yambuk Brigade and the Belfast Group, including terms as Deputy Group Officer, Lieutenant and Secretary.

“Not only has Geoff held roles at both brigade and group level, he has also performed many delegate functions for the various background committees which CFA brigades are part of,” Mr Barton said.

Despite owning and running his own farm, Mr Youl has always maintained an active membership with his local brigade, including being available for response both locally and statewide, as well as assisting the brigade at community events.

"Geoff’s exemplary service has previously been recognised when awarded Honorary Life Membership to Yambuk Fire Brigade in 2004. He also received his 50 Year Service Award from the CFA in 2012”, Mr Barton said.

In addition to his commitment to Yambuk Fire Brigade, Geoff is further involved in his local community, serving both past and present roles for Moyne Health Services, Port Fairy Cemetery Trust, South West Rifle Association, Belfast Shire and Yambuk Hall Committee of Management to name but a few.
