The Fire Danger Period (FDP) will commence at 1am on Monday, 26 October 2026 for the following municipality:
- Mildura Rural City Council
Residents in the Mildura area are encouraged to use this time to prepare their properties ahead of the Fire Danger Period.
This includes cleaning up dry grass, leaves, and other flammable materials, as well as completing safe private burn-offs while they are still permitted.
CFA District 18 Assistant Chief Fire Officer Gavin Wright said now was the time for residents to make sure they were prepared.
“Conditions across the Mallee are drying quickly, with soils remaining very dry across much of the north and west of the district and grass curing progressing slightly ahead of where we were this time last year,” Gavin said.
“We expect curing levels to reach 100 per cent across many parts of the Mallee within the next few weeks, meaning there will be more dry fuel available to carry fire.”
“Hay baling and harvest activities are also starting to ramp up across the region, so now is the time to complete those last-minute clean-up jobs around your property and make sure your bushfire plan is up to date.”
For more information on preparing your property and understanding local fire restrictions, visit www.cfa.vic.gov.au.
Those conducting burn-offs must notify authorities online at the Fire Permits Victoria website (www.firepermits.vic.gov.au), or by calling 1800 668 511.
By registering your burn-off online, you allow emergency call takers to allocate more of their time taking calls from people who need emergency assistance immediately.
No burning off is permitted during the FDP without a Permit to Burn, which can be applied for through the Fire Permits Victoria website.
