Members of The Basin Fire Brigade have gathered to celebrate the announcement of a builder being appointed to construct their new fire station.
On Thursday, 21 May the builder was officially announced at the new station site at 49 Basin-Olinda Road, The Basin.
The new station will allow the brigade to continue serving their community well into the future.
It will feature a motor room with three drive through bays, storage space, operational areas, and a multipurpose room.
The design incorporates private changing areas and accessible, unisex bathroom facilities.
Externally, the brigade will also enjoy a new car park and landscaping.
The Basin Fire Brigade Captain Corey Schmutter said it was exciting to have a builder locked in.
“There is a lot of work that goes into a project like this,” Corey said.
“A new station will really go a long way for the brigade and the community as it will enhance our capability for both The Basin and surrounding communities.
“We look forward to seeing this project come to fruition and being able to move in.”
Assistant Chief Fire Officer for District 13, Richard Hill, said CFA welcomed the announcement.
“This is a real step forward in the construction of this new station,” Richard said.
“It will be great to see works beginning and then eventually getting the brigade operating out of this new site.
“The Basin do an incredible job serving their local community, so it is important they are supported to continue doing so into the future.”
Works are set to begin on the station next month, with an expected completion date later in the year.
The Basin Fire Brigade was formed in 1927 and currently has 41 operational members, with a total membership of 64.
