Mt Macedon Fire Brigade has marked the start of construction of a new fire station with an official turning of the sod ceremony today.
The new state-of-the-art fire station will be built at a new site on Mt Macedon Road, just down the road from the current station, and will provide a much larger facility for the brigade and its local community.
CFA District 2 Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Steve Alcock joined Mary-Anne Thomas MP, Mt Macedon Captain Tim Slattery and brigade members as the first sod was turned on the new $3.1 million fire station.
ACFO Alcock said the new station will be a great asset to the brigade’s 29 members for many years to come.
“Mt Macedon brigade has outgrown its current station so this new facility will allow the volunteers to continue serving and protecting their community and beyond into the future,” ACFO Alcock said.
Mt Macedon Captain Tim Slattery said the brigade is looking forward to having a new home.
“The brigade is in a high-risk bushfire area with around 50 callouts per year, so it is important for our members to have a larger and more modern facility,” Captain Slattery said.
“The new station will feature three motor room bays, a multipurpose room with kitchen, male and female turn-out facilities, amenities, an office, a workshop and a communications room.
“Outside we will have a training yard and on-site parking for volunteers which will be great for future training and accessibility when responding to emergencies.”
The new station was funded by the 2018/19 Victorian State Budget and the Emergency Services High Priority Infrastructure Program.
Construction of the new Mt Macedon Fire Station is expected to be complete by May 2023.
