Doreen Fire Brigade members gathered over the weekend to celebrate the completion of their extension works at the fire station.
The $1.3 million modification funded through State Government grants has modernised the station and made it more fit-for-purpose.
Upgrades include a turnout room with change room areas, a multipurpose kitchen, communications and office area, volunteer amenities, a laundry, drying room and a workshop.
Deputy Chief Officer Gavin Thompson joined Doreen brigade members to celebrate the completion of the works.
The afternoon also included Rochester presenting a flag to the brigade after members helped with floods in 2022.
Doreen Captain Robert Bury said the upgraded station will be a great asset for their 102 members.
“The site will boost our ability to protect and support the community now and into the future,” Captain Bury said.
“It’s valuable to have improved features and space so we can meet the needs of the growing brigade.
“Thank you to everyone involved in completing these works and a huge thanks to our dedicated Doreen volunteers and their ongoing invaluable service to the community.”
Deputy Chief Officer Gavin Thompson said he was honoured to join Doreen members in their celebration.
“It was great to see the new and improved station which I know will serve our volunteers and community well for many years,” DCO Thompson said.
“I’m proud of our Doreen volunteers for their selfless commitment to their local community and beyond.”
