State Member for Western Victoria Region David O’Brien officially opened the Linlithgow Fire Station last Sunday afternoon before an audience of approximately 40 people.
Linlithgow, situated in South West Victoria between the townships of Hamilton, Penshurst and Dunkeld, lies at the foothills of the picturesque Grampians ranges to the north.
The new $277,000 facility on the corner of North Lake Road and Forbes Lane, is situated in a more prominent position and provides better access to all directions than the previous location.
The new station replaces the old galvanised shed which is now in a poor condition. The station being located several kilometres from the nearest reliable power source, is a standalone facility with its own 10Kva generator. This generator provides all power for the station and is easily started by a switch at the entry door to the station.
The brigade was also presented with certificates from Warrayure Brigade who displayed them in their Hall pending the building of Linlithgow’s new station.
As part of the brigade’s celebrations, a National Medal was awarded to Noel Mibus, a diligent long serving member since 1966. Noel started his service on 18 July 1966 and has held the roles of 4th Lieutenant, Communications Officer, Captain, 2nd Lieutenant and 1st Lieutenant with the brigade, as well as 1st Deputy Group Officer, Group Officer and Group Secretary of the Mount Rouse Group of Fire Brigades.
Service Awards were also presented as part of the celebrations.
