On Saturday 19 March the 2022 CFA/VFBV Firefighter State Championships kicked off in Mooroopna, with the Urban Juniors.

The official opening ceremony started the weekend-long competition. The ceremony included speeches from CFA Deputy Chief Officer - Operational Performance & Capability Kaylene Jones, VFBV Vice President Samantha Rothman and Dromana Fire Brigade Captain Timothy Desmond.

Deputy Chief Officer Jones said that Championship events are an important tradition for our members.

"It’s fantastic to be here in Mooroopna once again for the Urban Junior Championships," said Kaylene.

"The fact that we’re all here together and preparing to hold these events after yet another turbulent year, is a tribute to all those who have played a part in bringing everything together.

"The state championships are not only important to our juniors, they are a highlight of the CFA annual calendar. They promote the essential values of teamwork, health and wellbeing, while also simulating many of the practical tasks firefighters undertake."

Competition events started from 9am on Saturday 19 March and ran through until the afternoon of Sunday 20 March.

The competition kicked off with the Under 14 Hydrate race, followed by a range of events throughout the day including Marshall (one and twos), Y Coupling (twos and fours), Hydrant Race and Wet Hose events.

Melton A took out first place overall, making them the 2022 Urban Junior champions.
