A CFA tanker rolled over while responding to a call-out for a housefire in Yeodene around 12.30pm on Tuesday 7 September.
Saturday 11 September 2021:
CFA is pleased to report that firefighter Matt Daniels, who underwent surgery for multiple injuries, has been transferred out of the Alfred Hospital's Intensive Care Unit and into the trauma ward.
His wife Kay has thanked all involved for the support they have provided during this difficult time.
Captain Ken O’Brian was released from hospital on Thursday and is recovering at home with the support of the brigade.
CFA is incredibly relieved to hear that both members will recover from this serious incident. All involved in the subsequent rescue demonstrated the highest standards of professionalism and care for their colleagues and CFA is proud of how our members responded in looking after the members and their families.
The incident highlights the inherent dangers of the work CFA does and we thank all those volunteers for their ongoing commitment to protecting their communities.
Friday 10 September 2021:
One of the firefighters, who suffered head and body lacerations and extensive bruising in the tanker rollover has been released from hospital and is now recovering at home with family.
The other member is in a stable condition at The Alfred hospital, where he is expected to remain for some time as he recovers from serious leg, hip and internal injuries.
Our thoughts are with our members, their families and colleagues and CFA, along with the Barongarook West Fire Brigade and Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria continue to support them during this difficult time.

CFA is aware two of our members have been injured in this incident and are being transported to hospital by Ambulance Victoria. Our thoughts are with our members, their families, and fellow brigade members at this time. We express thanks to our emergency service partners VIC SES, VIC Pol and Ambulance Victoria in coming to the assistance of our crews.
As per standard procedure, CFA is undertaking an investigation into the incident while focussing on the wellbeing of the members involved.
