Dandenong Rd West is currently closed from Beach St to Fletcher Rd while emergency crews make the area safe.

The Quayside Shopping Centre has been evacuated as a precaution, while firefighters decant and flame off some of the leaking bottles.

District 8 Operations Officer Steven Keating said there were no injuries and minimal damage to surrounding areas.

“Police, ambulance and firefighters will remain on the scene for quite some time to make the area safe,” Mr Keating said.

“Fire investigators will attend tomorrow morning to determine the cause and we will also work with a building surveyor to inspect any structural damage to the surrounding building.”

Crews from Frankston and Patterson River brigades are on scene.

People are advised to avoid the area  and keep the roads in the vicinity clear for emergency service vehicles.
