CFA brigades and groups will share $9.5 million for projects as part of today’s Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP) announcement.

The successful grants were announced this afternoon (17 November) by Minister James Merlino in Stawell.

The 2017-18 VESEP will see the total funding package of almost $13 million provided to local emergency services volunteer groups for operational equipment, vehicles, trucks, tankers, watercraft, trailers and minor facility improvements.

Under the VESEP, the government contributes $2 for every $1 contributed by volunteers from organisations such as the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association, CFA, Life Saving Victoria, VICSES, or any eligible volunteer emergency services groups.

Of the 191 CFA grants, 64 are replacing or upgrading vehicles, 34 volunteer amenities improvements, 46 equipment and 47 minor works projects.

The funding also includes $2.2 million of statewide initiatives for brigades and groups that include:-

  •          Cool Climate Gear resizing
  •          Helmet Torch replacement program
  •          Roll Over Protection Cushions
  •          Rural Fire Station PA Door Program
  •          Generators for Local Command Facilities
  •          DMO fleet maintenance & Coast Guard brigade vehicle maintenance
  •          Training Grounds Support
  •          Thermal Imaging Camera replacement program
  •          Rescue Brigade Equipment
  •          Virtual Reality Simulated Training
  •          Project scope for electrical training POD
  •          Vehicle enhancement and development programs
  •          Virtual Reality Simulated Training

Successful grant applicants will be notified in the coming week by mail.
