Doors open at new Plenty Fire Station

Members of Plenty Fire Brigade gathered today to celebrate the official opening of the new fire station.

 

The new $3.01 million station is a modernised, fit-for-purpose facility replacing the former station which was built in 1970 and no longer met the needs of the growing brigade.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan and Minister for Emergency Services the Hon. Jaclyn Symes joined Plenty Brigade Captain David Rumble, other dignitaries, and brigade members to unveil the new station.

The brigade’s 80 members will enjoy the station’s new state-of-the-art facilities including four large engine bays, improved kitchen facilities, dedicated training space, separate turn-out and change rooms, improved equipment storage and Breathing Apparatus (BA) facilities.

Captain Rumble said the new facility will help the brigade better support the community.

“Our brigade is growing and these new facilities will boost our capability and improve our service to the community,” he said.

“The larger engine bay means we have more space to house our brigade vehicles and make it safer for our members to get in and out of the station when responding to incidents.

“Thank you to the community and the wider brigade who have contributed to the completion of this project.”

The brigade contributed $120,000 to construction costs through community fundraising.

Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said he was proud to join the brigade to help mark the official opening of the new facility for the brigade and the community.

“The new Plenty Fire Station is a community asset that empowers our volunteers to continue carrying out their important role in protecting lives and property now and well into the future,” CO Heffernan said.

“Thank you to the brigade for their invaluable service to their local community and wider area.”
