Construction phase begins for Edithvale brigade

Last week the Deputy Premier and Minister for Emergency Services, Hon James Merlino, took to a sledge hammer to physically start the demolition of the current Fire Station and neighbouring house to start the construction phase of the new Edithvale Fire Station.

The new station will consist of a four-bay motor room, the first purpose-built volunteer business hub, general meeting and administrative facilities and, importantly, a community meeting room and facilities to support the broader community

The Minister recognised the fantastic contribution of John Hennessy, the previous owner of the neighbouring house who, despite commercial pressure from developers, sold the house to CFA in the overall interests of the brigade and community. Mr Merlino presented him with a CFA Certificate of Appreciation for his support.

In attendance on the day were CFA Chair Greg Smith, Federal Member Mark Dreyfus, State Member Tim Richardson, Mayor City of Kingston David Eden, Deputy Mayor Rosemary West, Cr Georgina Oxley, Captain Graham Fountain, brigade members and other distinguished guests.

The construction phase commences in earnest later this month.
