Chicken farm fire at Watchem

CFA crews were called to a fire at a chicken farm in Watchem at around 8.30pm on Monday night (29 August).

Firefighters arrived to find one shed well alight and spreading to additional sheds close by.

Brigades from Watchem, Birchip and Litchfield attended and managed to protect an adjoining shed and contained the fire to the one building.

Approximately 8,000 chickens were inside the 100 metre x 20 metre building, thankfully no birds were lost during the incident.

Crews remained on-scene blacking out the fire for some time, and the Watchem brigade captain placed a 'fire stop' on the call at 10.20pm.

Fire investigators will attend on Tuesday to establish the cause of the fire.
