A granny flat was destroyed and surrounding grassland was burnt in a fire at Eaglehawk North yesterday afternoon.

CFA was called to a building fire in Whipstick Road just after 5.30pm, on Monday 14 February.

When crews arrived, the fire was well alight and Police were called to assist with traffic control.

The fire was brought under control at 6pm, by which time the 5m x 10m flat was unfortunately completely destroyed.

The fire also extended into some surrounding grass areas.

Ambulance Victoria transported a firefighter to hospital suffering heat stress and an occupant suffering smoke inhalation.

CFA had six vehicles on scene, supported by FRV and FFMVic firefighters.

The fire started in the kitchen area, however the exact cause is still to be determined.
