The Annual Firefighter Memorial Service will be held on Sunday 1 May in Churchill to honour the 80 firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
This event is a way to pay respects to those who have fallen while serving their communities, and is a way for family, friends and colleagues to honour, reflect and remember.
The service is held every year close to International Firefighters’ Day - 4 May - a global event started by CFA members in 1999 following the tragic death of five firefighters in Linton the previous year. This year’s memorial service will mark the 34th event.
Location: Auditorium, Building 3E, Federation University – Gippsland Campus Northways Road, Churchill
Date: 2.00pm on Sunday 1 May
Family members and friends, CFA and Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria (VFBV) executives, as well as government representatives will come together to remember and honour the personal sacrifices and commitment firefighters make each and every day.
CFA Chief Executive Officer Natalie MacDonald and CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan will attend the service, alongside CFA Chair Greg Wilson.
“The Annual Memorial Service is a time when we honour, recognise and reflect on the personal sacrifices made by our firefighters, their families and colleagues," Natalie said.
"We at CFA continue to adapt and evolve to deliver the same vital services to our community, with our number one priority the health of our volunteers and staff," CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan added. "But we never forget all of our fallen firefighters; forever remembered with love and respect."
During the service, music will be provided by singer Ben Clark, who will perform the national anthem and a number of hymns throughout.
Light refreshments will be provided at the end of the ceremony. CFA uniform or smart casual clothing to be worn.
