Nursing home evacuated following fire in Somerville

CFA firefighters have been battling a fire at a nursing home in Graf Road at Somerville this morning.

 

Firefighters were called to the scene just after 8am due to the alarm sounding in the building.

Residents were being safely evacuated when firefighters arrived on scene.

No injuries were reported but Ambulance Victoria was called to the scene due to the nature and location of the incident.

The fire was believed to have started in the kitchen and was spreading into the roof space.

All 150 residents were safely removed from the building by 8.30am.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus continued to work on the fire.

The fire was brought under control at 9am and the residents were safely brought back into an unaffected part of the building.

CFA had six trucks on scene and three vehicles, including a breathing apparatus van.

Victoria Police was also on scene.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
