The 2022 CFA/VFBV State Championships have wrapped up, with the event a resounding success.

Brigades from across the state travelled to Mooroopna across two weekends to participate in Senior and Junior, Urban and Rural Championships.

With perfect weather conditions, members put their athleticism on show in a fierce competition. Almost 1000 CFA and VFBV members were in attendance.

In addition to the competitive events of the Championships, many elements from across CFA departments were on show.

While the corporate tent featured exhibits such as the latest training and infrastructure highlights, the site was also utilised midweek to promote fire safety for school children.

In greatest demand, though, were the fitting rooms where volunteers could view and try on the new CFA workwear which will be rolled out in coming months. The feedback on the clothing was overwhelmingly positive and the opportunity to examine the gear and ask questions proved invaluable.

The return of the Torchlight Procession through the streets of Shepparton illuminated the importance of tradition the CFA to the general public, while the future of CFA was seen by the success of Euroa in the first ever Female Aggregate Trophy.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said the new women's events were a fantastic display of what our women can achieve.

“I’ve been so impressed with the high level of skill displayed by the women in these new events. We hope to see even greater levels of participation in coming Championships,” Jason said.

VFBV President Nev Jones AFSM said the Champs were a success all round.

"It’s been so pleasing to see the number of people involved; both CFA staff displaying all that they do to help us; and the number of volunteers participating in the Championships," Nev said.

"The highlight for me was the torchlight procession through the streets of Shepparton in conjunction with an event that was already being staged there. It was a real showcase for CFA to be part of that and it’s been an exceptionally good weekend. Well done to everyone.”
