Victorians encouraged to dig deep for Good Friday Appeal

Tomorrow marks the 2022 Good Friday Appeal, where CFA members will be hitting the streets to raise money for The Royal Children’s Hospital.

CFA is now in its 71st year of supporting the Appeal with brigades starting to fundraise for the Appeal just six years after CFA was formed, making the annual tradition a staple of CFA’s identity.

The Appeal is a fantastic way for brigades to get out and about for a good cause.

After a brief, COVID-related hiatus, tin-rattling has well and truly returned, and you can expect to see CFA members at street corners and traffic lights across the state with our signature purple tins.

The fundraising allows for a bit of friendly competition for brigades about who raises the most funds to help The Royal Children’s Hospital continue to support the kids who need it most.

We are so thankful for all our crews who take part in the Appeal, many of whom have been directly impacted by the work of the hospital.

At the conclusion of the day tomorrow, CFA will conduct its annual cheque handover to The Royal Children’s Hospital, which is the culmination of our fundraising efforts for the year. Acting Chief Officer Rohan Luke will be joined by Warrandyte CFA members Camren Jones and Louise Naus to handover the cheque to the hospital.

Throughout the history of CFA raising money for the Appeal, our crews have banded together to raise more than $35 million for the hospital – an absolutely outstanding effort.

This year, crews have been hard at work already, aiming to smash previous tallies and hit new records.

Sebastopol are aiming high, hoping to hit a combined total of $500,000 of money raised for the Appeal, while Moe and Newborough continue to raise the bar with over $1 million raised in total over the years.

One of the faces of this year’s Appeal Isla was treated to a special day as a firefighter when she visited Doreen, who have a strong personal connection to the Appeal through their Captain, Robert  Bury.

If you’re one of our many members who will be out and about tomorrow collecting for the Appeal, we thank you for your dedication to this important cause. If you happen to see our members shaking their tins, we ask you to give what you can and dig deep for such an important cause.
