The first weekend of the 2022 CFA/VFBV State Championships were a great success, with excitement building for the Urban Senior, Rural Junior and Rural Senior events this coming weekend.

The Urban Junior events took place last weekend, with all results found here.

The Urban Senior, Rural Junior and Senior State Firefighting Championships will be held on the weekend of 26 and 27 March.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said Championship events were a fantastic way to encourage teamwork amongst members.

“Championship events are a great way for our members to engage as a team, build skills and fitness and be part of a strong sporting culture,” Jason said.

“By coming together and competing in a fun and supportive environment, our members can also grow closer not only with their brigades, but with brigades across the state as well.”

In addition to the competition events, the Championships will feature a number of fun activities  including trade displays, firefighting equipment displays, a corporate merchandise and souvenir store, CFA department displays, food and beverage stalls, a children’s play zone - and much more.

This year will also feature the return of the Torchlight Procession through Shepparton on the evening of 26 March.

Deputy Chief Officer Operational Performance & Capability Kaylene Jones said the event was a fantastic way for teams to not only compete but also practice their firefighting skills.

“The Championships provide a chance for our members to get together and learn from each other,” Kaylene said.

“Competitors can also take advantage of the number of training stations we will have available at the event, such as hot fire props and Virtual Reality training.

“It will be fantastic to see our members come together after an extended period of being unable to do so due to COVID.”

“After being closed to the public in 2021, we also look forward to welcoming spectators back to the event this year.”
